Child or Child Slave?

  I have two beautiful and unique girls. I also have two beautiful and unique set of hopes and dreams for them both.
     In the barest minimum, I would like the following for them
  • To be loved
  • To be fed
  • To be live in a loving home
  • To feel secure
  • To be educated
  • To be able to play 
  • To have room to express their individuality 
  • To know that there is a possibility for their dreams to become a reality 
  • To foster loving and lasting relationships with others
  • Above all freedom of worship
     I think I have mentioned a few of the the ones that immediately come to mind, there are a lot more.
Now to my main point and concern in our society, the issue of 'Modern Slavery' which has been widely accepted as normal and yet widely ignored. This is especially rampant with those that get hired help.
Most parents will not put their own children through what they put their maids or hired helps through.
   We bring girls and boys from remote areas in the guise of

  • Helping them
  • Helping their parents 
  • Giving them exposure, yet they don't have the freedom to leave; and the list can go on and on.
     This is my thing or should I say concern, if you can't answer yes to some or all of the list of above; then you should review your motive. The list is the barest minimum and some are a legal requirement anyway. You should have no business bringing a child that is not yours to serve you and your children if you can not treat them like yours or close enough.
     A child here is one below 18; this is the legal age in most countries. There are parts of the world where children choose to work after compulsory school age which is 16. If they choose to work, please do make sure you train them; with the good intention to move them forward genuinely much better.

Child Education

Wow, its been a minute! Had all kinds of things going on at once. I think the worst was my laptop crashing. We made a few changes in my first child's education recently and I was amazed at some of the reactions and feedback I got. I am surprised as to the lack of common knowledge amongst us first time parents. I been one of them, now I am asking so many questions from everyone. We need to talk more amongst our close group of friends that have children in the same age group and find out what learning standards are out there for  them. I know we don't generally like to compare our children but its important to compare the standards they are receiving especially in school and the like.
